Sometimes we don’t realize it, but it’s so easy to put something before the father. It could be social media, a relationship, hobbies, etc. Although it may not be intentional, it’s our responsibility to ensure we put him first. Our hearts, minds, souls, should be devoted to him.
I know this isn’t a popular topic, but we always ask him for things and sometimes fail to put him first. For example, what is the first thing you do when you have a problem? Do you call your best friend or a family member for advice? If the answer is yes, then this is a way of not putting him first. The Bible instructs us to lean not into our own understanding in all our ways acknowledge him, and he will direct our paths.
The second example is unhealthy coping mechanisms. This may be the one that hurts the most. When we go through problems, we can sometimes lean on natural things to find comfort. Only to find ourselves going back for more and more because we never feel satisfied and it doesn’t resolve our issues. Watching Netflix, scrolling on social media, going back to a toxic relationship, or overworking ourselves. All of these are unhealthy and will only lead us back to square one.
I discovered that when I lean on the Father, he gives me comfort, direction, and resolution. It’s not always easy because my human nature desires a quick fix. Everything in our generation is so quick and easily accessible. However, in the spirit, there is a process. This is when we lean into the Holy Spirit for grace and strength to handle our problems with wisdom and lean on the Father before anything else.
Let’s make a deal! The next time we feel the urge to lean on something other than our heavenly father, we won’t resist the temptation to seek earthly things for comfort. We will lead on the Father for Assistance to get through to the other side.
